    https://www.greenparty.org.uk/assets/files/manifesto/Green_Party_2015_General_Election_Manifesto.pdf

A few choice bits from the manifesto:

    • A free retrofit insulation programme, concentrating where fuel poverty is most serious, aiming at achieving Passivhaus refurb standard in 9m homes

    • All new homes to be built to Passivhaus standard

    • Investment in training for the design and building industries. Introduce a national college for training in energy home improvement

Nice idea but not quite sure how the finances work out on the first one. They are suggesting they will offer £5k free insulation and a further £15k in loans, but I think you're going to need a lot more cash than that on the average property!

They plan to phase out fossil fuel by 2023 (8 years) and Nuclear by 2025 (10 years). I think that would be very difficult.

It'll get a lot more difficult if (when) they (or whoever) don't!

I'm sure petrol will still be available for classic cars like ancient Citroens, at £200/litre.

Once we're back in the (new), stone age I wonder where all the dosh and jobs are going to come from. I guess some will be building the windmills, others tilting at them, but we can we all retire to our cosy passivhäuser.

Now, if they had said they would fund a training programme for the building trade, starting with Building Control Officers (run by Green Building Forum professionals of course) I might have taken them seriously!

That's the third point isn't it?

To answer that question (which is posed so as not to invite an answer, but as a negating rhetorical reaction), check deeply into the Transition ('Transition Towns') material, and read Charles Eisenstein: The Ascent of Humanity http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ascent-Humanity-Civilization-Human-Sense/dp/1583945350/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1429181853&sr=1-1&keywords=ascent+of+humanity and realise why the future cannot be just be a projection of the past, as it has been fopr the 5-10k yrs since the agricultural revolution. Here on GBF, of all places!

Well If I can turn a grade 2 listed building into a passivhauser then the rest of you have no excuse. Not there yet but well on the way 14 out of 82 windows installed.

Sorry left out just - should have read "would just fund a training programme". But I do think Building Control is where to start. Who else is in a position to implement large scale change in the building industry? And I am serious about training by building trade professionals from this forum - how else will you find suitable trainers in the UK?
