I am about to slate the roof on a new build and have received some conflicting advice regarding the verge slates. We are using Spanish pre-holed 250x500 slates with a head lap of 90mm. The roof angle is 35 deg. and we are using a continuous plastic dry verge. My query is this: can I use a half slate on the verge or do I use a slate and a half? The roof is N – S facing and we are in South West Wales. I would be grateful for any advice that anyone could offer.
    Regards
    Les

I used Cambrian man made slates on my sunroom and used their 1.5s, alternating with whole tiles at the verges, but then I had to get it exact for the interlock. It certainly made a neat job. Personally I would think that splitting a 250mm tile wouldn't look as good, but that's just an opinion.
    P.S. I'm not a roofer.

Tile and a half - make sure your roofers fix the dry verge properly (he says from bitter experience)...

Building regs may let half slates by but if you are getting warranty insurance they won't.

Thank you all for the useful info. We have decided to go with the slate and a half
