    Hi, I am in the middle of buying an old farm cottage on an estate in the NE of Scotland. the house hasnt been lived in for a few years, has damp issues, roofing issues, been on fire, maybe flooded, needs extending, has no heating or hot water, all the copper has been stolen and all doors internal and external and windows infact all wood work not infested with woodworm needs replaced...but apart from that its ok.
    I will need all the help I can get!:bigsmile:

    Where in NE Scotland? I'm in Caithness where I have a cottage which hasn't been lived in since 1936. Not a lot left and no intention of doing anything with it - new build a 80 metres away instead.

    We are just near you, in Johnshaven and also just in the process of buying an old stone cottage. Sounds like your one is in a similar condition to ours!

    this is a first project for us as well so we will be learning lots!

    We're other side of town from you.

    Aberdeenshire council planning policy would probably support you knock it down and rebuild a bigger newer greener house in its place, save some stone to face the outside with. Worth calling them...
