7 airchanges and 0.08 for cold bridges is way too high for modern houses. When its 20 degrees inside and 0 degrees outside, an 0.08 cold bridge will give an inside 15 degree cold spot with condensation occuring at 70% Relative Humidity.
A 0.04 cold bridge on the other hand will give an inside 16.5 degree cold spot with condensation occuring at 80% Relative Humidity.

I agree it could be better, but it is a step change. Can't expect the average builder to jump straight into passivehaus.

Is it true that scotland wants to be 50 renewables by 2020?

funded by north sea oil and City of London finance no doubt.

Apparently, as much as had already been produced over the 25 years up to 2008, when this appeared...

The English Empire won't grant Scotland significant independence for a while yet then, on spurious grounds that it (unlike Eire) is too small for viability.

And if it did, Scotland wouldn't let Scandinavian Shetland go, on spurious grounds that it (unlike IoM) is too small for viability.

Britain's empty wilderness regions are still being quarried for their material assets (now incl wind and tide) - Lebensraum to keep the English heartland afloat. Roll on United States of Europe!

O_o we seem to be getting rather political here. I thought that the EU would be thought of as a good thing on this forum as this area of interest could be seen stereotypically as Left leaning.

As for the TRADA document i agree that it is a step in the right direction but it could have obviously went further.

Only seen that way by the Right as in nasty UKIP-type instincts; the other kinds of Right know EU is good for it; principally the business and money Right, and the authoritarian controlling Right. The only way EU cd be seen as Left leaning is by people who oppose raising of minimum standards for the wage-slaves, and even worse the unproductive layabout class.

I think we should fold in strong views on religion and sex at this point to ensure that no one remains unoffended.

Go for it! Why should robust rhetorical debate cause 'offence'? (abusiveness is something else).

I was not referring to the EU as left leaning although it is and i don't mind that at all i am however not a fan of the EU or at least in the direction we are headed. I was actually referring to the members of the green building forum generally being to the left of the political spectrum therefore typically seeing the EU in a positive light.

Yes I understood that, and I was surprised, because I hear 'left-leaning' (also 'liberal') people saying that EU is a) authoritarian b) pathologically controlling and interfering c) devoted to the interests of big business and money.

As a 'liberal' (small L) but no longer really 'left-leaning' (as in socialist) I say those things are unfortunately true, yet I strongly support EU, and would support a United States of Europe. EU is also strongly, pioneeringly 'environmental', for reasons which are not clear but which I am glad to welcome. And pushes for things like minimum wage and social security, probably in order to promote a healthy (as in 'good shoppers') public.

Mainly I support EU/USE because it's no longer possible for any section of any community (workers, retired, business, ethnic, women/men), any social class (professional, 'on-benefits'), any interest group (eco, new-age, party, business again) any nation, any superpower block, to compete with each other as if they were still independent within a spacious environment capable of taking the consequent knocks. Until recently they could be significantly independent, but the stage is too small now, and that kind of independence is just a neurotic, treasured delusion. Not to say that all the above shouldn't have their uniqueness promoted, as a source of energy, on a EU-style 'subsidiarity' basis, within levels of integration, as parts of a whole.

That whole can't be too big - World Government! But the latter is a long way away, whereas EU is here - a miracle achievement - in 1939 its likelihood was just as remote as World Government seems today.

There's nothing wrong with Big Government - just with the neurotic way it's done. If that belief is 'left-leaning' then that can only be because 'left-right' no longer means 'socialist-capitalist', but has come to mean 'liberal-fascist'.

I'm sure the planners are going to go along with suggestions such as "all glazing orientated east/west".
