    There's a very interesting article at https://www.technologyreview.com/s/611816/the-simple-but-ingenious-system-taiwan-uses-to-crowdsource-its-laws/

It basically describes a couple of online discussion platforms in Taiwan that help to achieve consensus on legal policy. I'd love to see that kind of experiment used in this country. We could really use some consensus building in various areas at the moment!

Very interesting, inspiring even. What potential power and influence is ready and waiting to be adopted by the disadvantaged of the world.

In place of age-old adversarial pushing and shoving which at best produces a temporary power swing that's soon enough reversed, there are many experimental techniques out there for consensus building. Such consensus carries much authority which isn't so easily overturned by the enraged 49% who 'lost' the last democratic contest.

    The definitive book is

but is like digital never happened. Its best notion is that random, or demographically spread, citizens can be co-opted to serve on consensus-building panels, a bit like public duty to jury service, with powers to call witnesses and commission research.

Now it seems the techniques can use digital - maybe the time has come where what was just a worthy idea can now find teeth.
