    Post construction monitoring and evaluation.
Why, because its based on fact, not rhetorical assumptions about building use, out-dated weather patterns and inaccurate assumptions of on-site construction accuracy and cost achievement.

Tony - to clarify were you talking about pre- or post-build assessment?

My first reading was pre-build, comparing things like Passivhaus, AECB, CSH etc.

Though I must say that I love the idea of assessing after it is built -- makes a lot of sense that.

Couldn't agree more. I will be looking at data capture and logging solutions once our design stabilises a little more.

I'm definitely interested in feedback on this.

Is it worth going through PassivHaus/AECB to get feedback on how things could be done better (I'm not so worried about the actual certification) or am I better off just writing up what we plan and get feedback from the more generous people on the Green Building Forum?

Also, what are the likely costs of going through PassivHaus/AECB analysis and certification?

if you're talking pre-build then i believe you're referring to a design assessment as there is not yet a building to assess.
unless there has been accurate measurement of post construction 'actual' buildings then design assessment software has nothing with which to compare or calibrate against... does that make sense?

'the best' assessment will be horses for courses depending on particular objectives and specifically if the assessment is predominantly building design or environmental impact as the various schemes value particular elements of construction impact with differing weightings.
i believe this was recently addressed at ecobuild with a document signed by the various parties to comply with an agreed format to give like for like comparison regardless of the scheme.
