Dear forum, could i please ask for any advice about gaining a better understanding of green buildings. Currently I have a degree in civil and structural engineering and an OCDEA qualification, but it is very clear that there is a huge amount of extra learning involved other than the 5 day OCDEA course. Your advice on books to read and any extra learning (open university courses?) would be greatly appreciated. I would dearly love to not be in the class of assessors who use heat pumps to solve SAP issues!
    Many thanks,
    Peter.

The green building bibles! They tend to sum up and explain the majority of the topics that periodicals keep harping on about. I really do recommend them. They are easy to read, small handy format and. . . . cheap!

disclaimer: I have no affiliation with them. It's a purely personal opinion.

Many thanks for your comment, they have just landed on my door step and they look very good so far. In fact now i know where all the diagrams from the courses come from!

I have also just found a part time degree course in building services engineering down the road in bristol. 5 years part time. Do you think the industry will end up with all assessors needing this kind of qualification? It certainly seams so if buildings are going to be carbon neutral but its a long time especially for a second degree. For the amount of extra research i do however on summer over heating for example maybe its really worth it. Any ideas?

Assessors probably wont need that level of qualification, but building designers will need to work better with people that do.
