    Been planning for a while a solar pv plus battery storage. Was never really happy with spending my money for most of it to go to China. Over the years have had issues with product from China ( 2 examples in the last week stealing hours of my time) and also surprises that what I thought was from somewhere else was a rebadged from China. The havoc created worldwide by corona virus is, bottom line, due to the culture in China, so time I think to say no to any more spend there.
    The proposal for my install all comes from China. I can source panels and inverters from elsewhere even though it will cost me more but batteries is another matter. Been trawling through potential suppliers but to some extent or another have cells made in China. Does anyone have some leads I can check out.

    Also, I think much of the "havoc created worldwide" is probably due to the culture in quite a lot of other so called advanced countries, but I appreciate the effort to avoid contributing to the economy of an authoritarian regime.

    Thanks for those links. DT It is difficult getting Tesla batteries as the installers are specially selected and non of my local installers have the franchise. They are v expensive also. The solarfeeds,com link is a very useful listing will go through in more detail later.

    Just to say, if you have the money I can heartily recommend the Powerwall 2 and Gateway 2. If not, and you can wait awhile, the old vehicle to grid will be along as a readily available item maybe in 3 - 5 years time, IMO.

    Taken some time but have found an Italian hybrid inverter and German battery with cells made in Korea. Was important that I got an inverter battery combination that had been tested and sourced from the same outlet as opposed to buying inverter in one place and battery in another. Still need to firm up on panels but installer has come up with a proposal. Just a shame that we do not make batteries here in the UK they are made but not suitable for solar but if you got a FLT, or now a new electric JCB no problem. Where are all the batteries for the EV's going to come from). As relationships are deteriorating on a daily bases with China we need to be doing our own thing. The corvid 19 can give us the opportunity to start up new green enterprises making things that China are making for us now. With thousands being made redundant from Rolls Royce and Airbus for example the skills of those engineers and technicians with undoubtedly transferrable skills should be harnessed into green renewables initiatives.

    When the Soviet Union collapsed, it was uncomfortable to the west that no enemy remained, so one - the Muslim world - was manufactured. That didn't really wash, so it's a great relief that the Muslim alternative can wither from neglect, as a potential proper enemy is maybe sighted - China. So let's whip it up, get the media going, and hopefully we'll be at war before too long.

    So you believe that China is run by a benign, friendly regime which only wants to do good things for the rest of the world?:confused: Yes, China is not the big enemy it is being portrayed as but if you are not concerned at the direction the leadership has been taking it in the last decade then your not looking properly. It is not pretty.

    I agree China looks ugly as reported, but doesn't our principal 'ally' and protector also, and are we sure how UK looks, as reported to many parts of the world? Are we quite sure we are unique in not being sold a line, just like the Chinese and those others are about us?

    I never mentioned the US nor is it being aggressive or benign relevant to the China issue. To answer your point, no the US is most definitely is not that benign but then neither is the EU to bring the other big player in to the conversation. What separates them all though is the US is not in the process of empire building where it has direct physical control of other states. The EU is doing this but is probably to inefficient to succeed much beyond its current format. China however is very much active in empire building and has the nous & muscle to do it. It is quite scary.

    "Empire building where it has direct physical control of other states" - surely no empire does that any more, certainly since WW2 if not WW1. Not US, not China, not EU (unless encouraging/agreeing to new member states is that). If HK is classed as that, it's not much of a prototype for territorial expansion.

    Modern empires are are 'soft' empires, based on favours/bribes/investment, threats/economic attacks, cultural seduction (Hollywood), covert/political interference, trade agreements/corporate penetration often under duress but especially in China's case often beneficial. In that they're all pretty equal.

    We're being encouraged by "what separates xyz from us (or the west, or USA) ..." logic, to selectively demonise xyz while forgetting about equivalent or worse nastiness in 'our' club. Even as we believe the biased information we're getting, to make such judgements.

    I just say, let's not lazily swallow the propaganda we're being fed (even tho the people of the opposing empires are swallowing the contrary propaganda that they're being fed). It's designed to confuse and occupy all our energies, chasing red herrings, enjoying scapegoats and boycotts.

    Rather than taking sides, even blindly patriotically, let's put our energies, our focus on the vast amount of non-mainstream information that's out there, to get a clearer view, then act thoughtfully, independently or having found others to ally with.

    So I sit here on top of the wealth and technology pile created in the UK from, in part, stealing other people's countries and enslaving a good many of their citizens (albeit some time ago). I guess I'm (UK) sliding down the other side of the bell curve that all empires seem to share. It's taken me a good while to understand that human nature is the driver of these cycles and we've all got it!

    As China ramps up the slope of it's bell curve, I try to understand (not excuse) it's aggressive behaviour, but I feel there is a difference. They seem more inclined to buy rather than invade, I hope that this less murderous approach leaves my children and grandchildren in a safer place than my father and grandfather shared.

    Sorting the wheat from the chaff regarding media coverage of the News of the World remains a tricky job.

    Just my tuppence worth :)

    It's just a different mindset - whereas the western democracies projected power and took what they required very much in the style of smash and grab, the Chinese mindset will achieve their aims by stealing the contents of the granaries, one grain at a time, even if that takes 50 years.

    Not a nice bunch of lads, the Chinese - on many, many level - don't fall into the trap of believing much of what they do abroad as "beneficial".

    I say this from the perspective of being a very small part of a very big plan to move several hundred million Chinese citizens from rural agriculture to industrialized cities over the last three decades - basically from feudal serfdom to industrialized slavery. It's been interesting to say the least.

    Apart from the lack of freedom of speech in China and the persecution of minorities of which the Uighurs are just one of many I doubt that the people of Tibet would be of your opinion about not building empire nor the people of Zambia or Sri Lanka. Nor the expansion and illegal construction of territory on the South China Sea. In regards to your last paragraph how do you know who is behind many of the posts about such subject?

    when you talk about buy rather than invade do you mean like the East India Company? Maybe the their new naval base in Sri Lanka is the first step there.

    The Chinese people are fine on the whole just like any other nationality but the Chinese government is a bully and the sooner people wake up to this the better.

    Having ben in touch with a well known solar panel manufacturer who manufactures across the globe to ask which of there panels were not made in China I was given 2 models that were made in Korea. I duly ordered 18 of one of them only to find that when they arrived this week they are made in China. So much for doing my best to get what I want.

    The guy who informed me didn't try very hard did he. I have said I would like him to arrange a swop will see how hard he tries on this one
    I remember my boss saying to me when I had tried very hard to meet an objective set in my performance appraisal, to which he agreed it was a tough one that customers only pay on delivery and do not care how hard one tries. He was spot on.

    The Saga unfolds could becoming a real headache. The guy in question agreed to swop the Chines ones for those made in Korea. It is a rather convoluted arrangement the originals were to go back to the selling agent and the manufacturer would deliver direct to me from their stock. The financial bit I guess would be between the manufacturer and the selling agent. The China made ones have been picked up by the seller but I have no panels yet in exchange. Job on hold and weather deteriorating. My pleas for information go unanswered so feeling I am between a rock and a hard place. I have no redress against the company I bought from, they are as far as I can make out doing everyone a favour. Just wish people would honour their promises.

    They are the only people you DO have redress against! They are the people you have a contract with. You'll need to insist they complete the contract or refund your payment.

    Unfortunately I do not believe I have any redress against the supplier they supplied the goods they fulfilled the order. As I had been told by the manufacturer where the panels were made I did not specify to the seller they had to come form Korea as the information I had was they were only made in Korea. The issue is that the manufacturer stated in writing that what he was recommending was made on one line in Korea for which there was a choice of 3 variants recommended made on that production line and clearly he was mistaken. He agreed to do the exchange and persuaded the original supplier to take them back and the manufacturer Uk company would supply the Korean made ones form their UK stock. So that is why I think I am between rock and a hard place. Being green does not have to be this difficult.

    Delays are always frustrating especially when theres scope to avoid them but dont get too concerned about the weather as ours were installed in December without a hitch.
