    EIS tax relief for community energy schemes receiving subsidy will be removed for any investment made on or after 30 November 2015.

    Community energy schemes receiving subsidy will also continue to be ineligible for Social Investment Tax Relief (SITR), even after it has been enlarged.

    These surprise announcements were made on Monday 26 October during a report stage of the the Finance Bill by Treasury Minister David Gauke. This is a complete reversal of previous announcements made in Autumn Statement 2014 and Budget 2015 that an expanded SITR would be opened to community energy schemes while EIS would continue for 6 months after changes to SITR gained State Aid approval (see our Budget 2015 briefing).


    These changes will make it very difficult if not impossible for community renewable energy schemes

    Agree. FiTs going in January now removal of EIS means community energy simple is too high risk with no gain. Cameron says one thing about empowering communities and divulging decision making away from central government to local people, but actions speak louder than words. Osbourne has no interest in renewables and wants fracking, pretty sure he doesn't believe in climate change

    Quite possibly. Or he (and a lot of the others) simply don't care.

    He and his like probably do 'believe' in CC, and it's not that they 'don't care' - they may see it very clearly - but their hard-nosed strategy is to concentrate into their hands, more and more of the dwindling 'real' assets of a dying world, so that they and their families can be the ones on the spaceships out to new unraped worlds.

    Well, I'm not sure that Cameron, or even puppet-master Osborne, are really in that inner circle; maybe they're simply applying an ideology that serves that elite plan. Maybe, for all their apparent power and force, they're just as much blinded puppets as any of us.

    Yep, that's more-or-less the sense of “don't care” I had in mind: it won't directly affect the wealthy in the west very much other than resources costing a bit more so the answer is, as always, to accumulate more wealth for them and their kind to sit in their castles.
