General: thermal stores plate heat exchangers and central heating

    Hi
    Can I use a plate heat exchanger (type as used in gas boilers e.g. vaillant heat exchanger 00193640/06) to pass excess heat from a thermal store at 70-80C to the central heating (pressurised) return at 40C. The thermal store would be unpressurised and fed from wood stove and solar sources.

    Yes but you need to ensure that you have a big enough plate exchanger. These work fine for making hot water but heating loads can be so much bigger that they cant cope so you may need more than one depending on your heating load.

    Why not insulate better so you don't need heating?
