    Afternoon all.
I'm researching SIP manufacturers for a forthcoming self-build in a few years time (I'm broke, y'see - so I'm doing the research while I save up). I've got Green Building mag, Build It! mag and sundry other bits and bobs, but I was hoping for some pointers to any recommended UK SIP manufacturers and/or their websites. I'm using the list on UK SIPs Association Ltd's website (http://www.uksips.org/profiles) as a starter, but if anyone's got any additional pointers or recommended places to check, I'd be very grateful.

    TIA.
    Pete

Look for a sip manufacturer who's product is 3rd party certified as a building system (rather than just a product).

    Timber

Try Glosford Timber using the Kingspan system. Just completing a 5 bed house and they were competitive and professional.

Be very carefull about deposit's with any Timber frame / SIPS company. Most are relatively small and in current climate you never know who may go under. Most want a fairly hefty deposit before they manufacture. Best route is to negotiate with them to accept you lodging you payment with your solicitor. They know you have ability to pay and you are protected if they go under

First SIPS company (not Glosford) went bust on me. Thankfully I hadn't paid any large sums !

Don't let this put you off, and watching the shell of a 240m2 house go up in a couple of weeks is impressive.

"Lodging you[r] payment with your solicitor" is more generally known as "escrow".

The former according to my MacBook's dictionary, though I've been pronouncing it "es-crahw" without too many funny looks...

Probably is general term, but I found if I tried to set up an 'escrow' there was a charge for the paperwork associated with a legal document.

I just went for solicior holding money with no formal escrow contract. everyone happy and saved a small amount ( all adds up)
