Ive researched thoroughly Fakro v velux for triple glazed passive house rooflights and there are good threads on the forum.

Has anyone experience of ROTO they look ok and have been used on the continent for ages?

This doesn't exactly answer your question neil but asks another. Why can't you make a top knotch quality roof light, insulated box upstand frame, the works, and with 3G toughened glazing. Admittedly it wont open but if you think about it do you really need that facility especially if the rooflights are high up and you have MVHR anyway. I made some much simpler single glazed wired glass ones 30 years ago, flashed them, and they are still quite servicable. They were to illuminate an outside but covered area. Unless you really want opening facility then just get a decent joinery company to make some.

Interested to know what you've found for these. From my initial looks it seems like triple glazed without vents is regarded as a bit of a niche and it's a bit of a struggle to get details.

We're planning to use these: http://www.lamilux.com/daylight-systems/daylight-elements/flat-roof-window.html

Their insulated flat roof roof lights are as good as anything else on the market and reasonably priced (considering). They also do a PassivHaus certified product, but the cost is eye watering.....

Core Sash Windows offers great deals on timber framed high performance roof lights with U values as low as 0.74.

My guess is they are just fitters Nick. Sourcing stuff from Lord knows where, and with no manufacturing facility behind them. Just a fancy website. Personally, I'd stay clear.

I noticed an interesting looking new 3g Fakro flat-roof roof-light at Ecobuild, with a good insulated upstand. Didn't get to chat to anyone about it, as I scarpered off to a seminar.

I saw the Fakro at Eco-build but the website doesn't seem to have caught up.

    Hi Mark,

See from AECB forum you've been on with your project since 2010 - about as long as mine! Have you come to a conclusion on sliding folding doors. I have had quotes around £10k for 3 panels timber/aluminium - about the same as a new VW up!!! No technology comparison there. Thinking sliding doors best but hard to get same opening with 3 panes ie 3 sliding and probably end up about same price unless you go with door unit. Which flat rooflight have you gone for. I have detailed a fixed flat one if your interested but not got costs yet.
    When do you start building?

    Hi Again Mark,
Seen your blogg looks like you have gone through exactly same issues as me.
When you have installed your home automation can you come and do mine?

    Cheers

    Hi Neil,

my history on this forum and elsewhere is misleading - we've been working on a project on this site for a lot longer than that, but it only turned into a contemporary "green" build about 3 years ago, which is when I started to become active.

I haven't been so active the last few months as we've been preparing to move house and get going on the project and haven't had a lot of time left over. We're starting to face some tricky areas in the detail design so I may well be posting for some more advice/discussion soon.

We're going for Solarlux SL97 folding sliding doors. They seem to be about as good as it gets, although are more expensive than most that I looked at. I don't know the sizes for your windows, but ours are 2.7m wide by 2.09m high in three panels, with 46mm 3G argon fill and come out at around £7k (exc. VAT) for a set. You're price either seems excessive or you have very big windows.

I think that by the time I've done my home automation I'll be looking for a well designed rest! The Loxone system looks really good, and programming isn't that hard, especially if you have any kind of logical/engineering background. I'd be more than happy to share ideas and help solve problems though if you need.

    Thanks,
    Mark.

SolarLux seem to be the most expensive option. I priced up a 5 panel, 2.4m high, 4.5m wide space and the Solarlux quote was about £12k installed (3G alu).

Sunflex was closer to £8k. I'm not sure the Solarlux are *that* much better. Pretty sure we've decided to go with a sliding door instead now.

On the Fakro rooflight at Ecobuild I talked to the guy on the stand. He said they were supplied with it only at the show with no information and it won't be available for a while yet - towards the end of the year from memory.

I am looking for a passive house roof light which is electrically operated for summer stack ventilation. Have things moved on yet? Any recommendations?

I to am in the throws of specifying 12 rooflights for my project and have almost settled on the Fakro 3G units. I got a quote from them for 4G units and it was over £12K. The 3G units will save around 2-3K but for me the additional sound reduction of the 3G units is more desireable - an extra 2db which is almost 1/2 the sound again.

However, there are several of the rooflights that could be none opening and I keep searching for such windows but cannot find anything price/performance wise that matches the Fakro units. I will spec Fakro for now but as I won't need them for > a year I might change!
