    I was thinking of attending Batibouw 2012 and wondered if anyone here had ever attended and if it was worth the 40 Euro fee for the two days? Also does anyone hqve any suggestions as to where to stay, ideally low cost and close to the venue?

    I also notice that if you are professional visitor you can get an invitation code? Any idea where you get one from in the UK and what it entitles you to? Reduction in admission cost?

    I went twice when we lived in Belgium. It's a really massive show. Something like 13 halls. Take good walking shoes. First time I went it was a rush to see it all in a day.

    I went mainly for inspiration - a high percentage of new houses in Belgium are self builds or at least built for a specific first owner. Quality of everything seemed pretty high. If you know what you want you can buy or order stuff at the show and many Belgians take their plans with them for that purpose. When I went things like german made wood burners were cheaper than in the UK but I've no idea how/if they deliver. Saw some fantastic oak doors that wouldn't look out of place on a church but at a price.

    Can't really help with a hotel but the exhibition is reasonably easy to get to on the tube. I used to cross Brussels from the east to get to it. It's not far from the Atomium.

    I seem to remember the food being basic at the show.

    Your best bet for a pass might be to contact a company that is exhibiting and go visit their web site. Express an interest in their products and ask if they will have a stand at the show as you are thinking of going. They might just send you tickets.

    For info when I went there were "Professional days" and "Public days". On professional days only building professionals are meant to be allowed in. Check which days of the week you were going! The Public days were fairly busy but wern't impossibly so. This is 5 years ago now so things may have changed.
