Are there any self-builders in the south west who could spare roughly 30 minutes? The closer to plymouth the better but I can travel.

As part of my dissertation I am looking to informally interview 6 people who are soon to build, currently building, or who have recently built their house.

The purpose will be to find out a little about your house with regards to its design and any energy efficient construction or low/renewable energy technology that may be used. I would also like to get your opinions about energy efficient homes, and what their benefits and challenges are to you.

With your permission I may take a couple of photos of your home and record the interview to aid the write up. In accordance with the University’s ethical policy this data would be treated confidentially and deleted on completion of the research.

Please let me know if you are interested and I can PM my contact details. I can meet most days, at a time and place (hopefully your new build) convenient for you.

    Regards, steve.

That would be great thanks. Is your house finished, or are you building, or pre-construction?

If you don't mind waiting I'll get back to you in a few days as there are a couple of other self-builders on the outskirts of devon that I might be able to interview on the same day.

    Thanks again, Steve.

I just wanted to say I carried out my first interview yesterday, which went really well. I got some great opinions which will help to make an excellent research project. Thanks to that person for welcoming me into their home, it's going to be a lovely family home in a great locations. Best of luck with the build.

    Steve

We get bombarded with invitations to fill in a questionnaire, as one seems to be obligatory for every academic project these days. Most show great cluelessness, little commitment, no follow-through. So it's v refreshing to see how you're running yours, Steve.

Thank you for your kind words. The project I'm doing is worth 25% of my degree grade, so it's important that I do well. I am also very keen to self-build myself one day, so it's something that I am very interested in.

I think it takes a lot of courage and determination to see a self-build through as well, especially when some have little or no experience, I applaud you all!
