Some form of cladding seems to be the latest flavour on windows, especially aluminium, though also fibreglass. Does this really make the windows, longer-lasting, easier to maintain and what stops condensation forming between the alu cladding and the timber leading to rot?

I think those are very good questions. And the answers on here seemed to be so varied, I plumped for unclad softwood thanks to this forum.

Re the condensation question. I guess it's supposed to be vented well enough (or should be). If the frame is foam filled though, presumably this might be a worse problem. External condensation on the glass on damp mornings is a very noticiable "feature" of my new 3g windows. I've begun to squeegee them before breakfast on the leisurely mornings just so I can see out!
