Can anyone recommend any big German DIY outlets that deliver to the UK. The insulation product that I am looking for (Ytong Multipor) seems pretty common over there but is not available here.

    Thanks

    Andrew

Yes, I have spoken to them and they are looking into a price for bringing over the small quantity I need but I suspect their shipping cost will be prohibitive as they are generally dealing with container sized consignments. I am looking into European pallet delivery now. Looks like it could be done for around £100 for the 150kg of materials required.

CWatters, thanks for the link. I have already spoken to Xella. They said they had none in stock in the UK but would give me a price for bringing my small quantity in. They said they were concentrating on promoting the Ytong blocks which are load bearing rather than insulating. Haven't received quote yet but expecting it to be prohibitive.

Daryl, thanks for the offer. I will get in touch once if my pallet option doesn't work out. I am in Scotland so I would still have to get it "up here" assuming you are "down there".

    Hi Andrew,
I'd be very interested to hear how this has worked out for you...

My wife and I are re-building an old mill house, rubble stone build, parts of which are nearly 400 years old. We're just having the interior walls re-rendered with lime mortar - on the external (interior) walls this is in preparation for installing multipor, except in one case where we're using diathonite to follow the curve of the wall.

I looked on Selco site, following up Matt's suggestion, but couldn't see any Ytong or Multipor products listed. I've had a quote for bringing over the pallets of blocks plus window returns, mortar, mesh and fixings I would need: not quite prohibitive, in the sense that it would prevent us using it, but it's certainly very expensive and if there was a significantly cheaper, viable alternative I'd probably jump at it.

Another question relating to the multipor concerns installing it. The lime rendering is being done well - after considerable hassle we've found a good plasterer - but I'm not sure we will achieve the 5mm per running metre variance in substrate level that Ytong indicate is required. I'm intending to fit the blocks myself and just wondered how you - or anyone else who's used this product - has got on with it.

    Many thanks, in anticipation,
    Ian
