    Hi

I want to put a 200L immersion heater in the roof space next to a soon to be bathroom in a renovation project.

From what I have read it is generally considered better to have a vertical HW tank because of the way the hot water separates from the cold.

Because of space issues it would be much better to have a horizontal tank. I would appreciate anyones advice on whether there really is a big difference in performance when using a horizontal tank.

    cheers

The facilities in the roof space will not be the only ones drawing hot water from the cylinder I imagine .
So is it possible for the cylinder be vertical at a lower level in the property ?

No unfortunately not, all the space downstairs space is used up.

I have a solar shower (posh term for an oil drum on stilts) in the garden with the tank horizontal, I find that I have to restrict the flow considerably to avoid getting the cold mixing with the hot and just getting warm water out. I could imagine a similar problem with a horizontal DHW tank unless the tank was designed to be horizontal. (fitted with a baffle plate on the input)
Over here you can get horizontal DHW tanks but the general advice is to avoid them if possible.

Ok, thanks for the advice, ill probably fit a vertical tank and regig the layout of the bathroom to accommodate..
