I just had an interesting discussion with a plumber next door. Apparently their water softener has given up the ghost and has pushed all its resin beads out into the plumbing, where they are causing much grief by blocking showers and taps etc. He says all water softeners should be serviced.

We have a Tapworks AD11, a model since replaced by an NSC11PRO I think, and I just reread the instructions. They don't say anything about having to get it serviced, and do say 'all you need to do is top up the salt' and suchlike. So I doubt it should be serviced and don't know what would be done if it was.

Does anybody have any knowledge or experience to offer?

I have been using dual cylinder, block salt, water softeners for nearly thirty years and have never had them serviced. I would be interested to know how the resin beads got through the filter screen on the outlet pipe from the softener.
